Just in case you missed The Pet Shop Boys in the past when they came to Hong Kong, you will have your chance again to see them in 2019. The synth-pop duo of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, whose first ever tour in 1989 started in Hong Kong, announced The Super Tour with a stop in the city on March 29. In their 30+ years together, they have amassed over 40 Top thirty singles in the UK, including four number ones.
The band rose to prominence in the late 80’s with a string of hits including “West End Girls”. Even though their music sounds flamboyantly queer, Tennant, who is gay, has stated that many of their songs used gender-neutral language so that any gender can be referred to. They have also collaborated, remixed or written with many queer artists like Lady Gaga, Madonna and David Bowie.
