On July 14, 2016, over 300 representatives from the financial and legal sectors, as well as other professional sectors including Professor Alfrad Chan Cheung-ming, Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission, got together to formally launch the Hong Kong Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered (LGBT) Interbank Exchange. With over 25 financial institutions as members and observers, the Interbank’s aim is to be the lead forum on issues for the LGBT community in the Hong Kong financial services industry in order to coordinate activities, share best practices and leverage resources on common interests. The forum also advises, facilitates discussions and provides networking opportunities for the LGBT community in Hong Kong. “Interbank is proud to play an active role in promoting diversity and forging greater collaboration between LGBT professionals and allies in the financial industry. As part of our launch initiatives, we aim to provide support and assistance to member firms in launching their own in-house LGBT employee networks as well as and sponsorship to community projects that are in alignment with the Interbank’s values and objectives”, said Celine Tan, Vice President at J.P. Morgan and co-chair of the Hong Kong LGBT Interbank Forum.
