GET OUT has had huge success in the USA, both critically and commercially, and it is most deserved. Writer-director Jordan Peele, who is probably best known from the Comedy Central show KEY & PEELE, has made a film that is funny and terrifying and satirical of race relations in America. Think GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER? mixed with THE STEPFORD WIVES and you have to GET OUT.
Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) has been dating his girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) for four months and they have now reached the point where Rose wants to introduce him to her parents. At first, Chris thinks the family is just nervous about the interracial relationship with Rose but he soon finds out there are more devious plot at hand going on in this very rural town. And it just gets down right creepy.
This is hands down, one of the best horror films to come out in a long while. Peele has blended elements past horror films along with his own touch to make GET OUT to make a very effective horror film that does have a lot to say about race in America right now. The casting is perfect, with Kaluuya and Catherine Keener (Rose’s mom) standing out in the film. There are times Keener is just staring, stirring a cup of a tea that will just creep you the fuck out (and you will look at stirring tea in a cup the same way again). Go see this movie, I cannot recommend it enough. It’s one of those films that will stay with you days after seeing it.
